Letting Go – Words of Sympathy

Letting go of everything
Everything I knew
Surrendering for once and all
Is just too hard to do

No matter what’s been said and done
The pain you put me through
I still remember something else
And can’t let go of you

I will always hang on
I will continue
For all of eternity
Forever loving you

Though time may pass I find myself
Trapped within the past
Left behind in what once was
And all we had amassed

Wondering where my love went
How you left so fast
If only I could have known
It would never last

I will always hang on
I will continue
For all of eternity
Forever loving you

Lingering thoughts of you remain
And so I still grieve
Hidden pain beneath the mask
For none to perceive

Moving forward is so hard
When I still believe
It wasn’t time for us to end
Too soon for you to leave

I will always hang on
I will continue
For all of eternity
Forever loving you

  1. Be careful if using this’; a lot of bitterness and unhealed angst comes through, and you might not want to burden others with your personal issues.

  2. I think this would be suitable for a stillborn or very young infant’s passing–the pain is extremely intense even if/though the life is short. Having been through such a loss myself, this poem moved me to tears & helped me feel that somebody else “gets” it–understanding goes a long way towards healing grief.
