Goodbye – Words of Sympathy

I always took for granted,
what I thought I’d never lose.
Because I never thought it would happen,
until I heard the dreaded news.

They say you were chosen for his garden,
His preciously hand picked bouquet.
“God really needed him,
That’s why he couldn’t stay.”

Saying goodbye is never easy,
It’s the hardest thing to do.
But what hurts me even more
Is not the chance to say it to you.

So today, Jesus, as you are listening
in your home above;
Would you go and find my dad,
And give him all my love!

Safely Home – Words of Sympathy

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh! but Jesus’ arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still;
Try to look beyond earth’s shadows,
Pray to trust our Father’s Will.

There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth–
You shall rest in Jesus’ land.

When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!

Entertaining an Angel Unawares – Words of Sympathy

Oh the joy we knew
the day your were born
A bouncing 8 lb 2 oz boy
held in our loving arms.

You made us laugh, you made us sing
you gave us lots of joy
Our hearts were so blessed by you…
our amazing little boy.

We named you David Paul
a good biblical name
but little did we realize then
you faced a life of pain.

As a 2-year-old toddler
you kept running a high temp
the doctors knew not why
it didn’t seem to make much sense.

They placed you in the hospital
ran test after test
to try to figure out what was wrong
they did their very best.

Leukemia was a word
we didn’t want to hear
they said you may not live
through the night
But God’s mercy
gave almost four more years.

Mercy let you stay with us
awhile longer in our care
as we truly entertained
you, our angel unaware

Unaware that your mission with us
would be cut so short
Unaware that it would not be long
before you’d be home with our Lord.

We gave you to the Loving arms
of God who loved you too
You see there just was no more
that the doctors on earth could do.

You said Jesus told you He needed you
just before you died
but oh the night this took place
we cried and cried and cried.

It seemed our sorrow would not lift
it seemed more pain than we could bear
until God made us realize
we had entertained an angel unawares.

Yes, He loaned you to us
for a small amount of time
with the assurance we’d see you again
in our heavenly home on high.

He went to prepare a place for you
He goes to prepare a place for me
He goes to prepare a place
for our loving family.

So, Buddy, we shall see you
upon that golden shore
and hold you once again
in our arms forevermore.

That’s not the end of the story,
for if you count the cost
You, too, can join your angel in heaven someday
You don’t have to remain lost

Just give your heart and life to Him
just breathe a simple prayer
and some day you, too, can meet
your angel unaware.
